✨AWARDS NIGHT✨
It's almost time for our rescheduled Awards Night, on Tuesday the 3rd of December. Doors will open at 5.45pm for a 6.00pm start and we hope to be finished around 7.30pm.
It is an evening for EVERYONE involved in the Club - Primary, Secondary and Senior athletes, all volunteers, families, sponsors and supporters. Every year, people say afterwards that they didn't come because they didn't think it was for them or that they didn't think they'd win anything, but it is an evening to celebrate EVERYONE in the Club and we would like you all to be there.
If for nothing else, you surely need to come for the free raffle!🎁

❤️HEARTWARMING MEDAL MEMORIAL❤️
This morning, someone posted on Orkney Merkitplace that they had found the medal pictured, at the graveyard in St Ola. I posted it on this page and quickly got a private message from the owner.
For those of you who know our Mags, you’ll know just how caring she is. When she told me the history of this medal, I just had to share it with you.
When Mags first moved to Orkney, she lived in a peedie semi-detached bungalow in Holm. She was living on her own in a place that was totally unfamiliar to her. Someone who played a huge part in helping her settle into life here was her neighbour, Betty. She was a great friend to Mags and always took a keen interest in her running. Mags and Nigel built their home in Kirkwall but kept in touch with Betty. When Betty passed away almost ten years ago, Mags returned to her grave a few weeks after her funeral and placed one oScottish Athleticsletics medals there, without telling anyone else, as a memorial of Betty’s support.
This is the medal that was found at the graveyard this week, years later. It was an emotional find for Mags, as she said she’s been thinking about Betty a lot recently, at the same time as returning to competitive running. Mags is going to collect the medal from the person who found it, and she is going to return it to Betty’s grave.
What a heartwarming story of just how much people’s support can mean to others and such a lovely gesture by Mags.🥹

I was very shocked to see a photo of my medal yesterday. I didn’t really think much of it until I seen where it was found! It was still on her grave the last time I visited, minus the ribbon but it was still there. Pleased that if it was moved by the weather or whatever, it was found. I will securely place it this time. Betty, a lovely Orcadian lady, such a wonderful neighbour. She was so welcoming to me and my family. Always showing me warmth, support and kindness ❤️Betty would have loved this 😂🥰 🥇
What a beautiful story - thank you for sharing it Mags ☺️
She really is one in a million! 🥰

As well as providing regular athletic instruction and training sessions, one of the key aims of OARC is to promote pathways to performance and as part of this, the Club organises and participates in a range of home and away competitions throughout the year.
