Home Competition Results – 25 March 2018

Conditions were good for Orkney Athletic Club’s first Home Competition of the season, sponsored by Cooke Aquaculture, on Sunday 25 March. With 82 entrants it was a positive beginning to the competitive season and especially encouraging to see a good number of the U11 athletes currently participating in the Pickaquoy Centre Athletics Pathway programme taking the chance to compete, as well as athletes coming in from Sanday and Stronsay to take part. Most competed in multiple events.

There were lots of strong performances on the day. On the track, the U15 boys ran an exciting and very competitive 100m race, with all 5 runners (Zander Scott, Ewan Tait, Callum Dowell, Jamie Barber, Euan Harcus) achieving PBs and a great winning time by Zander Scott (12.0 secs). Callum Dowell also ran a strong 400m achieving a PB of 61.7secs.

An outstanding run by U13 Alistair Mackenzie in the 1500m brought him in just 0.1 sec behind U17 Kristi Rendall in a time of 5.28.7. U15 Ewan Stevenson ran a very strong 800m achieving a new PB of 2.17.4 followed by Finn Hancock who also achieved a PB (2.267.5).

Meanwhile a good number of PBs were achieved on the field: U15 Shannon Passotti threw 10.78m in the shot putt, her first throw over 10m and U17 Molly Cant threw 8.59m in the shot putt (a new PB by 10 cm) and a PB in javelin (29.56m).

In the long jump U15 Jamie Barber beat his previous best by 15cm, jumping 4.68m and U20 Jerry Kaluzinski also achieved a PB with a jump of 5.85m.

Full results can be viewed here.

It requires over 30 volunteers and officials to put on a competition and the Club is very grateful to all those who came to help, as well as to the spectators and to sponsors Cooke Aquaculture.

The next Home Competition will be on Sunday 29 April (entry forms will be available to download from this website within the next few days), kicking off with the Kirkwall 10k at 9.30am followed by the track and field programme from 11am.
