❤️THROWS AND JUMPS DEVELOPMENT WEEKEND❤️
We have had a brilliant weekend with Robert Wilkie and Ken Allan. They very generously gave up their time to travel to Orkney and deliver development sessions for our coaches, parents and athletes. Everyone got lots from the sessions and the learning will be taken into training plans for all of our primary and field athletes. We cannot put into words just how much we appreciate the support Robert and Ken continue to give our Club. With complete changes in our field coaching team over the past nine months, their help has been valued more than ever. Having the opportunity to give so many coaches and parents access to their knowledge and advice over one weekend is fantastic.
As well as being extremely grateful to Robert and Ken, we would also like to thank the coaches who gave their time and energy to the sessions, as they do on a weekly basis. Thanks also to the parents who came along. Thanks to the athletes for being the ‘bodies’ for the sessions, we are sure you gained a lot from it as well. The Pickaquoy Centreaquoy Centre staff for their help. Finally, thank you vOrkney Islands Councilands Council who helped to fund this development opportunity. It was certainly value for money, as the number of coaches and athletes who will benefit from this, now and in the futureScottish Athleticssh Athletics

It is fantastic to see Lucy, Max and Taylah being supported through the Athlete Travel Award Scheme. It takes a huge commitment to get to the level they have all reached and to stay at that level over several years. Being able to access training and competition outside of Orkney is a key part of their progression, alongside the support they get here, and the Athlete Travel Award Scheme greatly helps them with this. Thanks to OIC, sportscotland and Stagecoach for putting their faith in our athletes.Thirteen athletes in Orkney have been selected for funding to enable them to keep on track with their chosen sports.
The Athlete Travel Award Scheme - a sportscotland special grant – helps sportspeople in regional and rural Scotland access competitive and training opportunities. For the third time, Stagecoach has kindly agreed to invest further in this year’s scheme, helping to support even more Orkney athletes.
The Athlete Travel Award Scheme, now in its seventh year, is a partnership between sportscotland and the participating local authorities in Scotland - Orkney Islands, Western Isles, Shetland Islands and Highland Councils.
