SPRINT GALA SUCCESS💨💨💨
A group of our Island Games athletes were competing at the Miler Meet and the Sprint Gala in Glasgow on Friday and Saturday.
Emily McArthur ran a great time of 2:15.01 in the 800m on Friday and then backed that up with a fantastic run of 58.85 in the 400m on Saturday. Brilliant racing.
Zander Scott, Taylah Paterson, Sian Smith and Charlotte Hume and all took to the start line for the 100m.
Zander, coming back from rehabbing an injury, was absolutely flying! He ran 11.21 and 11.25, both times inside the Orkney Record of 11.29, but he was really unlucky with the wind as it was just outside the legal limit both times (+2.3mps). Incredible speed though and that record is certainly within his grasp.
Taylah Paterson was rightfully delighted when she ran one of her fastest ever 100m times of 11.91. This saw her awarded the prize cash pot, and an invite to run at the British Championships will hopefully follow.
Sian Smith showed that her progress continues with another superb PB of 12.78. She has now slashed 0.28 seconds off her PB so far this year.
Charlotte Hume wasn’t as pleased with her day, but, if a bad day at the office takes the form of times of 12.96 in the 100m and 68 seconds in the 400 hurdles, that shows that things are going pretty well in the bigger picture!
Well done to you all! The dedication you and your coaches all give to your training really shows through these results. We are very proud of you all❤️

Superb, well done to all 💪🏻
⭐️PRIMARY ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS⭐️
We are incredibly proud of all our primary members who took part in the Primary Athletics Championships at Picky yesterday. The weather was truly awful in the morning, but they didn’t let that dampen their spirits, and there were some fantastic performances.
Well done to Amy and her team for a super event. It’s a highlight of many children’s year, so it’s great to see it back. Thank you to all of our officials who helped out; especially to Kristina and Craig, who were thrown in at the deep end with the starting gun! A very special shout out to our young coaching assistants, who represented the Club so well - we are very proud of you. Congratulations to our whole primary coaching team on preparing our athletes so well for this competition.

As well as providing regular athletic instruction and training sessions, one of the key aims of OARC is to promote pathways to performance and as part of this, the Club organises and participates in a range of home and away competitions throughout the year.
