2018 Dounby 10k – Results

A fantastic (especially in light of the wet and windy conditions!) entry of 59 runners took part in today’s (Sunday, 30 September) final run in the OAC annual series of 10k events.

Conditions in Dounby started wet and windy – and pretty much continued in similar vein for the duration of the run! A back wind on the way out clearly assisted the runners in achieving very respectable times, despite the miserable conditions – with the entire field all home in just over the hour!

Competition amongst the front runners was keen and despite leading for the majority of the run Jack Cunningham was overtaken on the last straight by overall winner Davie Macleod who came in with a time of 38.15. Jack was very close behind with a time of 38.28 and hot on their heels was Gary Ward who came home in a time of 38.53.

First female to cross the line was Katie Rafferty in a time of 43.37 with second place going to Emma Horne (44.35) and Sheila Shearer taking third place honours with a time of 45.06.

Although all finishers received medals – and bottled water (courtesy of the local Scottish Co-op) and bananas (courtesy of Tesco Kirkwall) – probably the most well received treat of the event was the warmth and hot cuppa which was available to all in the Dounby Community Centre!

Thanks to today’s volunteer marshals – Norman Shearer, Jacqueline Innes, Marjory Hamilton, Jill Sutcliffe, Sylvia Donaldson, Tracey Miller, Elspeth Fay, Marcus Shearer and Anthea Hume.

As this is the final event of the 2018 year, OAC would like to say a HUGE thank you to all 2018 event sponsors – this year has proved to be another fantastic year for road running interest and it has been great to see new runners; improved performances and increased camaraderie amongst runners.

And finally – a big well done to all of the runners who participated today – a full list of the result of your efforts can be found via the link below:-
