Training Guidance🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

We really hope you are all staying healthy and managing to find ways to power through this really challenging time.

It is of vital importance that we all adhere to the Government guidance and stay at home unless absolutely necessary. This is a constantly changing situation and will no doubt continue to change for the foreseeable future. We will try to keep you all informed of any changes.

We would however, love to encourage you to stay active and continue training. It is so important for your physical and mental wellbeing that you try to include some form of training into your day to day routine. Whilst we would encourage you to stay active, I must stress the importance of you doing any form of training, on your own. Please do not train together in small groups. I have just been on a call with other Development Officers throughout Scotland, and some clubs are imposing disciplinary action against any athletes who are found to be training in groups. I would really hope that this sort of action would not need to be taken within Orkney Athletic Club.

A statement from the Government:
“If people go within two metres of others who they don’t live with then they’re helping to spread the virus – and the consequences of that costs lives and it means that, for everyone, this will go on for longer.”

Please folks, let’s take this really seriously and try to protect everyone in Orkney. Our coaches have offered to develop training plans for any of the athletes, so if you would like a training plan from your coaches then please email me cdo@orkneyathleticclub.co.uk and I will ask the coaches for a plan for you. Scottish Athletics guidelines state that any communication between coaches and athletes must be done directly through the club. Coaches are not to contact athletes individually as part of safeguarding and wellbeing.

Alternatively, there are loads of online classes and training sessions. Many of the fitness instructors in Orkney are live streaming their classes so have a look on Facebook etc and see what you can find. You could also train ‘together’ via online groups.
