Rhiann Runs in Edinburgh Snow

ORKNEY teenager Rhiann Mackay competed in Saturday’s Inter District Cross Country Championships in wintry conditions in Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park.

Rhiann, 14, from Kirkwall, was selected to represent the North of Scotland due to her successful North District Cross Country result in November, and was the only athlete selected from Orkney Athletic Club. She came in 21st out of 29 runners and was the second-placed North runner, a fantastic result in the snowy conditions, which earned her a Scottish Athletic team medal.

Meanwhile, Orkney student Thomas Fay, currently at university in Glasgow, came 38th out of 46 runners.

Orkney Athletic Club coach Ali MacPhail said: “Orkney Athletic Club is very proud of Rhiann’s success and commitment to run. She and her mum had to fly to Edinburgh due to the severe weather conditions.”
