Orkney Athletic Club Team Up With Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club

On 9th and 10th April Orkney Athletic Club played host to 2 coaches from Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club. Colin Young and Eddie McKenzie, both accomplished coaches with Aberdeen AAC, travelled north to provide a coaching opportunity for the Orkney coaches. The weekend was organised to provide Orkney AC coaches the opportunity to coach and be coached on sprint hurdles and throws, including shot putt, discus and hammer. Orkney, having recently taken delivery of sprint hurdles, were particularly keen to get the training on hurdle technique in order for their athletes to compete hurdles events in 2011 competitions.

Orkney coaches and athletes found the weekend a worthwhile opportunity and one that they hope can be replicated in the future. Colin and Eddie provided the training to the Orkney coaches for no charge and Orkney AC would like to recognise this and offer their sincere thanks for their time over both days. It is hoped that both clubs can work together in the future with similar coaching opportunities.
