Dundee Delight for Local Young Athletes

Nine junior athletes from Orkney Athletic club travelled to Dundee on Sunday 2nd May for the first of the Scottish Young Athlete League series. The athletes were representing the Highlands and Islands Performance Participation Opportunity (HIPPO) team which is selected on the top 2 performances in each event in each age group from the North of Scotland.

  • U11’s Amy Davis – 75m, 800m and 4x100m Relay;
  • U13’s Taylah Spence – 75m, High Jump and 4x100m Relay; Andrew Davis – 200m, 800m and 4x100m Relay; and Fergus Macivor – 100m and 4x100m Relay;
  • U15’s Sarah MacPhail – High Jump and 800m; Thora Cant – Javelin; Alex Stevenson – Javelin, Long Jump and 4x100m Relay; and Evie Peace – 100m, 200m, Long Jump and 4x100m Relay;
  • U17’s Rhian MacKay – 3000m and 800m.

On a cold overcast day season best performances were achieved by Evie, Andrew, Thora, Sarah, Amy and Rhian. Overall the Team HIPPO came 2nd out of 8 participating teams, a great result at the start of the season. Orkney Athletic Club would like to thank Northlink for travel sponsorship and Colin Gregg for transport.

This coming weekend, Saturday 8th of May, Orkney Athletic Club are taking a squad of 36 athletes to the Regional Track and Field Championships at Queens Park in Inverness.
