2nd HIPPO Competition Sunday 22nd May

80 athletes took part in the 2nd athletics competition of the season. Conditions were dry and bright with a slight breeze for the best part of the day with the fun relays being abandoned due to a down pour. A huge amount of thanks must go to Buildbase who were the sponsors of this event.

In the Javelin, Alex Stevenson and Thora Cant both gained new pb’s, each increasing their distances by approx 2m.

In the High Jump, Chris Mackay and Jack Scott battled it out, both getting pb’s of 1.36m, with Chris taking first place after count back.

In the Shot Putt, James Nicolson led the field with 7.90 m, with Leanne Cursiter in 2nd position with 6.75m and Erin Montgomery 3rd with 6.37m.

Long Jump again was the most popular field event of the day with 42 athletes jumping throughout the day. Jason Sitte in his first competition jumped an impressive 3.88m with Ilona Wishart getting a new pb of 3.73m

Over the shorter sprints the aid of the wind assisted fast times. The 800m event saw the most improvement in times for the athletes with over half of them achieving new pb’s. Connor Hancock in his first competition ran a fine race with Nicol Harcus hot on his heels taking 9 secs off his pb.

In the 1500m Paul Kerr ran well with Jack Duncan battling hard to catch him taking 5 secs of his pb.

The sprints saw some very strong performances from Samuel, Liam, Ronan, Evie and Jodie.

It is also great to see the number of younger athletes competing grow. Their fearless determination and enthusiasm to compete is an absolute delight to watch.

Next competition is 28th August.
