1st HIPPO Competition, Inverness

The 1st HIPPO Competition (Highlands and Islands Performance Participation Opportunity) took place at Queens Park, Inverness on Sunday. A total of 14 Athletes took part from Orkney in their 1st track and field competition of the season.

Under 11

Amy Davis competed in 75m coming first and equalling her PB of 11.7 secs. She also took 1st place in the 150m and 1st place in 800m but just missed out on PB’s in both these events.

Under 14

Andrew Davis and Erina Brown ran in the 800m. Andrew equalled last seasons PB with 2.36 mins and Erina took 9 secs off hers, taking her down to 2.40 mins

Taylah Spence and Kayla Smith ran the 75m coming 1st 10.82 secs and 3rd 11.28 secs respectively. Erina joined the girls for the 150m, Taylah took 2nd place 22.35 secs, Kayla 3rd 22.94 secs and Erina 11th with a new PB of 24.38 secs.

In the Long Jump Erina came 2nd with a jump of 3.82 m and Kayla came 4th with a jump of 3.73 m both girls getting PB’s.

Taylah hot footed it from the finish line of the 150m across to the High Jump, where she smashed her PB of 1.35 to jump a whopping 1.43. With this jump Taylah is currently ranked 1st in both Scotland and the UK for her age group.

Under 16

Alex Stevenson took 2nd place and Thora Cant took 1st place in the Javelin, their throws were just short of their PB’s.

Alex came 2nd in the long jump with 4.26 m, Joe Gregg came 5th with a PB jump of 3.56 m and Fergus MacIvor came 6th.

In the 100m, Joe and Liam came 2nd, Aiden 4th and Fergus came 6th, in their heats. Liam and Aiden then got through to the finals and Liam took 1st place with 12.92 secs and Aidan took 5th with 13.87 secs.

There was no stopping Jodie Drever, she took 5th place in the 100m heats with 14.30 secs PB and got through to the final taking 4th place with 14.28 secs, beating her PB again. She took 5th place in her 200m just missing her PB and then went onto win the Long Jump with another PB of 4.16 m.

The boys all did the 400m, Liam 4th 62.14 secs, Alex 5th 63.16 secs PB, Aiden 9th 65.11 secs, Fergus 10th 69.70secs PB and Joe 11th 72.88 secs PB.

Senior Men

Calvin Cooper threw a PB of 47.44 m in the Javelin taking first place, which is good preparation for this years Island Games.
